Choosing your deck width
A 32mm fingerboard deck suits tight, fast street riding where you want the board to whip quickly. The 34mm fingerboard deck is the standard all-round width — the majority of pros ride somewhere in this range, and it is the easiest size to find matching trucks for. A 36mm fingerboard deck gives a wider, more planted feel that works well for park lines and larger obstacles.
Concave profiles explained
Concave is the curve across the width of the deck. Deeper concave locks your fingers in for flip tricks and gives more control during technical lines. A shallower concave with a steeper kick produces faster pop — useful for street-style riding where you want the nose and tail to snap quickly. Blank vs. graphic decks
A blank fingerboard deck is unprinted maple — clean, simple and often slightly cheaper than a graphic option. Blank decks suit riders who want to apply custom grip patterns or paint the board themselves. Graphic pro fingerboard decks use the same maple construction as blanks; the difference is purely cosmetic, not structural.
Why wood matters
A wooden fingerboard deck built from cross-laminated maple veneer presses into shape under heat and pressure. The layered construction gives a realistic flex and pop that plastic cannot replicate. When you pop an ollie on a properly made maple deck, the tail springs back in a way that builds genuine technique.

- 34mm is the safest starting point — it matches the widest range of trucks and suits most riding styles. Go to 32mm for a narrower, faster setup for technical tricks, or 36mm for a wider, more stable platform for park lines.
- What is the difference between a 32mm and 34mm fingerboard deck?
- 2mm sounds small but is noticeable underfoot. A 32mm deck feels snappier for technical flip tricks; 34mm sits wider and gives more surface area for your fingers. Most riders find 34mm easier to learn on and stay there.
- Do I need special trucks for different deck widths?
- Yes. A 34mm fingerboard deck pairs with 34mm trucks, a 32mm deck with 32mm trucks. Trucks that are too narrow feel unstable on grinds; trucks that are too wide catch your fingers unexpectedly. Width matching is one of the most basic rules of fingerboard setup.
- Are blank fingerboard decks the same quality as graphic ones?
- Generally yes — the construction is identical and the blank just skips the printing step. Some blanks are offcuts from a graphic run, which can make them slightly cheaper. Wood, concave and kicks are the same.
- How many plies should a fingerboard deck have?
