Fingerboard Size Conversion: mm to Inches and Truck Matching
Fingerboard decks are measured in millimeters across the widest point, which is confusing if you think in inches: 32mm is about 1.26", 34mm about 1.34", and 36mm about 1.42". Every deck width has exactly one matching truck width, and matching them is the single most important compatibility rule in the hobby. The table below converts every common size and names its truck match.

The conversion table
Measure a deck you already own straight across its widest point at the nose or tail, edge to edge, with a ruler or calipers. Manufacturer measurements are reliable; shop listings usually state width in the title.
Why truck matching is not optional
A deck and its trucks must share the same width. Trucks narrower than the deck feel twitchy and unstable on grinds; trucks wider than the deck stick out past the edge and catch your fingers mid-trick. When a setup feels unpredictable, width mismatch is the first thing to check.
One nuance: some riders deliberately run a truck one size under a wider deck for a looser feel, but that is an experienced-rider preference — start matched.
Fingerboard widths in inches and truck matches
| Deck width (mm) | Approx. inches | Matching truck | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| 29mm | 1.14" | 29mm | Narrow technical setups, small hands |
| 32mm | 1.26" | 32mm | Fast flipping, street, younger riders |
| 34mm | 1.34" | 34mm | The standard all-round width |
| 36mm | 1.42" | 36mm | Wide park feel, bigger obstacles |
Frequently asked questions
How wide is a 34mm fingerboard in inches?+
About 1.34 inches, or roughly 3.4cm. Deck width is always measured across the widest point of the deck, not its length.
Do trucks have to match deck width exactly?+
Yes — 32mm deck with 32mm trucks, 34 with 34, and so on. Mismatched widths are the most common cause of a setup that feels unstable or catches fingers.
